Having grown up as the daughter of an outsider, Skalde has worked hard to overcome the stigma her mother bears. And while Skalde’s wish to be accepted by the village community has driven mother and daughter apart, Skalde has become the protégé of the village’s leader and a respected member of the community.
One day, Skalde finds a strange girl in the woods. Knowing the community won’t tolerate foreigners, Skalde still decides to take her home. When the village finds out about the girl, Skalde has to face consequences for breaking the law. In an attempt to keep her position and protect the child, Skalde suggests a risky deal. Meanwhile, her mother Edith has her own plan.
