Men of Deeds

Not even over the 40 mark, the ever-productive Romanian Paul Negoescu has an impressive collection of short films and three feature films on his CV. The fourth feature film is an original crime story with slightly twisted western vibes in which Iulian Postelnicu stars as the policeman Ilie, stationed in a Romanian den. A pale anti-hero with a bent back who is both irresolute and harsh. All he wants is a goddamn orchard, and some peace. But the road there is, to say the least, crooked and lined with murder, bad decisions, and questionable handshakes. The final showdown is perhaps one of the best European film scenes this year. Like Tarantino having Ruben Östlund direct a long and dramatic key scene.
