Swedish Shorts 3: Norrland

15-year-old Gustav is vegan and straight edge in 90s Umeå. One night, he follows his friend Zeke, full of hatred against the meat industry, to the town's slaughterhouse with gasoline-filled bottles. It will be a night that changes Gustav forever.

The workers at the recycling market sort through what people no longer need. But as the northern city grows they face the perspective of becoming obsolete themselves.

In this playful experiment, we look within our own human body, where spirited body parts act as the voices in our head. A seemingly calm surface can be something totally different on the inside. Breathe is a playful short exploring the problem when your inner voices are giving you opposite advise regarding a decision to be made.

In a small town in northern Sweden, two strangers meet outside a club and decide to go on an adventure together through warm summer night. An adventure that leads to a tale of growth, love and dance. One thing is for sure, the night belongs to them.

Joel and My are torn between breaking up or giving the relationship another try. A situation they have been in so many times before. A struggle between following your heart or letting rationality make the decision.

The film portrays Linnea, a strong and young woman, who tries to follow her dream of becoming a truck driver. The journey is not straight. With a large amount of snus under the lip, four cats and some self-irony, she energetically takes on the challenges in Åsele. But through Linnea, we see that it is in the rural depopulated places, life can be most exciting and unpredictable.

What is a woman’s greatest sin? Her sacrifice to reach perfection? Crucifiga gives the audience a glimpse of a distant future where human kind and artificial intelligence has synergised into an android species; created and shaped into 'perfection' by the image of our icons. Tiled rooms repeated endlessly where symmetrical movements fill their void. An equal endless pursuit of perfection where old roles and stereotypes are hard-coded into each new generation. Glimpses of code are seen in repeated chores which have mutated into synchronized rituals. All accompanied by the banging of washing machines and dystopian soundscapes of noise and synthesizers.
