Sanna Nyström
Honorary Film Guest
Sanna Nyström is a costume designer and tailor from Härnösand. She works across film, television, the performing arts, as well as advertising, events, and music videos. With a solid background in couture, advanced tailoring, and historical costume craftsmanship, she has established herself as one of Sweden’s most highly regarded costume designers.
Textile craftsmanship, form, and silhouette define Sanna Nyström’s approach to costume design. A specialist in fashion and costume history, she possesses extensive knowledge of menswear, womenswear, and childrenswear spanning from the Middle Ages to the present day.
After studying advanced tailoring and historical costume craftsmanship in Copenhagen, Sanna went on to build a distinguished career across film, television, theatre, and the performing arts. Her work is characterized by a strong visual sensibility, using costume to shape characters, environments, and historical periods.
In addition to her work in film and television, Sanna has created stage costumes for some of Sweden’s most renowned artists, including Veronica Maggio, and has also worked extensively in opera and the performing arts. She is a sought-after lecturer on costume history and historically inspired tailoring.
Together with makeup artist Erika Nicklasson, she hosts the podcast Silhouette and Ideals – Real and Imagined (Siluett och Ideal – på riktigt och på låtsas), where they explore historical beauty ideals and clothing styles, and how these are recreated in contemporary films and television series.

"It is a great honour to be named this year’s Honorary Film Guest. I’m very much looking forward to attending Filmfest Sundsvall and taking part in discussions about the importance of costume design in film. We meet the actors early in the process and help shape their characters from the very beginning. Through costume, we help audiences understand who a character is and the world they inhabit. Whether a story is set in the present day, a historical era, or a fantasy world, every choice we make contributes to the whole."
We are proud to welcome Sanna Nyström as this year’s Honorary Film Guest.
