The film adaptation of Sara Lidman’s Lifsens rot, directed by Söråker-born Inga Kempe and co-produced with Film Västernorrland, is currently in post-production. Costume designer Sarah Mae White (The Wife, Clark, Hundarna) talks about her work on the film.

Costume Design – Crash Course

Julia Tegström and Ellen Utterström provide an introduction to the profession. Sundsvall-born Julia Tegström is a costume designer with a background in production design and has worked with filmmakers including Roy Andersson, Ruben Östlund and Mia Hansen-Løve. Ellen Utterström is a costume designer whose credits include Aniara, Syndabocken and Fartblinda.

Masterclass: Pierre-Yves Gayraud

The internationally acclaimed and award-winning French costume designer Pierre-Yves Gayraud has a career spanning more than 60 film and television productions. His credits include the hit series Babylon Berlin, The Bourne Identity, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, Cloud Atlas and Beauty and the Beast, and he has worked with directors including Tom Tykwer, Agnieszka Holland, Lasse Hallström, the Coen brothers, Julie Delpy and Xavier Dolan. Sanna Nyström – Film Guest of Honour

This year’s Film Guest of Honour, Sanna Nyström, grew up in Härnösand and is a costume designer and tailor with extensive experience in couture, advanced tailoring and historical costume making. She has worked on productions including Historieätarna, Partisan, Meningen med livet, Slutet på sommaren and Jönssonligan kommer tillbaka. Her costume design for Dogborn earned her a Guldbagge Award nomination in 2024. Together with make-up artist Erika Nicklasson, she hosts the podcast Siluett och Ideal – på riktigt och på låtsas. At Filmfest, she will discuss working with period costume, drawing on her work on the 2025 SVT Christmas Calendar series Tidstjuven. In conversation with costume designer Marcus Olson.
