This Year's Honorary Film Guest: Sanna Nyström

We are delighted to welcome Sanna Nyström as this year’s Honorary Film Guest – one of Sweden’s most acclaimed costume designers, whom we look forward to highlighting in this year’s festival programme.

Sanna Nyström from Härnösand is a costume designer and tailor with a strong background in couture, advanced tailoring, and historical costume craftsmanship. Through her work in film, television, theatre, and the performing arts, she has established herself as one of Sweden’s most highly regarded costume designers.

Her credits include productions such as Historieätarna, Dogborn, Partisan, Meningen med livet, Slutet på sommaren, Tidstjuven och Jönssonligan kommer tillbaka. In 2024, she received a Guldbagge Award nomination for her costume design in Dogborn.

Together with makeup artist Erika Nicklasson, she also hosts the podcast Siluett och Ideal – på riktigt och på låtsas, where they explore historical beauty ideals, clothing styles, and their representation in film and television.

“It is a great honour to be named this year’s Honorary Film Guest. I am very much looking forward to attending Filmfest Sundsvall and taking part in discussions about the importance of costume design in film. We meet the actors early in the process and help shape their characters from the very beginning. Through costume, we help audiences understand who a character is and the world they inhabit,” says Sanna Nyström.
