Swedish Shorts 1: The Best of Northern Sweden

Eight new short films from northern Sweden take us into reindeer herding under the midnight sun and the Sámi spirit world. We experience the digital rollercoaster of teenage love and meet a woman trying to cure her screen addiction with the static of television. Two old acquaintances escape their feelings by listening to East German punk on cassette. The stories also explore grief, family relationships, identity and longing.

Seven short films from northern Sweden take us on a spacecraft heading towards Earth and into the powerful organ sounds of Teg Church. We meet a tattoo artist who started at the age of ten in Copenhagen’s harbour district and went on to become a legend in the profession. At a lonely bus stop, two strangers meet who seem to inhabit completely different worlds. Along the way, we also encounter a cat sitter, a gorilla and a swarm of vengeful bees.

Seven Swedish short films take us through a night filled with masks and rituals, as well as a spiritual retreat. On a dying planet, a lone traveller searches for a way to bring life back, while IKEA plants stage a rebellion in an Arctic office. We also meet a couple who clash over a spider with a love of piano and a young mother trying to find her footing. Here, imagination takes centre stage, everyday life becomes unsettling, and the playful meets the serious.
