Filmfest Music is jointly organised with Svenska Oberoende Musikproducenter (SOM) and Sensus studieförbund, with support from Region Västernorrland and Föreningen Svenska Tonsättare (FST). Two days dedicated to music supervision, sync and film composition.

Awards Ceremony and Concert

Join us for a festival mingle, the awards ceremony and three lively short concerts by Emma Augustsson, Birgit Bidder and Sofia Härdig. Throughout the week, five juries with members from Sweden, Portugal, Italy, France, Germany and Norway have been hard at work – and now it’s time to present the six awards: Best International Feature Film, Best International Children’s Film, Best International Short Film, Best Swedish Short Film and Best Northern Swedish Short Film. New this year is the award for Best Film Music in a Swedish Short Film. Another new addition is a sixth jury, made up of preschool-aged children, who have selected their favourite among the international children’s short films. Three short concerts by Emma Augustsson, Birgit Bidder and Sofia Härdig will frame the evening.

Case Study: Filmen om Siw – Katharina Nuttall

Film composer and artist Katharina Nuttall (Trustorhärvan, Kungen, Hjärtat) talks about her work on the score for Stina Gardell’s acclaimed documentary about Siw Malmkvist, Filmen om Siw. The score has been nominated for this year’s prestigious European film music award, the Camille Awards, with the awards ceremony taking place the week before Filmfest.

Case Study: Jag for ner till bror

Director Sanna Lenken (Tunna blå linjen, Min lilla syster, Comedy Queen), editor Andreas Nilsson and composer Irya Gmeyner discuss the process behind the music for the SVT series Jag for ner till bror, based on Karin Smirnoff’s novel. The score was composed by Irya Gmeyner and Martin Hederos and won the award for Original Music of the Year at the 2026 Riagalan. Hederos and Gmeyner have previously collaborated on music for productions including Tunna blå linjen and Systrar 1968. Moderator: Andreas Fock

Johan Airijoki, Music Guest of Honour

The day after our Music Guest of Honour Johan Airijoki takes to the Filmfest stage with his band, we sit down over a simple cup of coffee to talk about his involvement in film and what plans he might have in store for the future. He is currently behind the music for the documentary Rullhuset, available on SVT Play. And of course, we also remember him from Jon Blåhed’s film Turpa Kiinni Minun Haters, in which he stars alongside Malin Buska. Moderator: Andreas Fock

Mental Health in the Creative Industries

In recent years, the myth of the suffering artist has given way to a real discussion. A 2018 study of the UK music industry showed that mental health problems are three times more common among musicians than in the general population. Creative professions are described as increasingly isolating. You are expected to forge your own path and, in addition to regularly producing high-quality art, promote yourself on social media and perhaps also act as your own manager, booking agent and record label/gallerist/administrator/financial manager. How do we find a balance? Taking part in the discussion are: Selen Özan, development officer at Sensus, music producer, composer and singer; Kristina Humle, film director and screenwriter; Marcus Olson, costume designer and production designer; and Charlie Granberg, artist, muralist and musician. Moderator: HG Rådström, lecturer on mental health and former basketball player.

Music Videos Today and Tomorrow

MTV shut down its music channels this year. Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean the music video is dead. On the contrary, it seems to be a remarkably resilient art form, with several videos attracting attention over the past year. Still, it provides a symbolic starting point for a conversation about the current state and future of the music video. Each participant has been asked to present a music video of their choice and use it as a starting point to discuss current trends and share their thoughts on where the format is heading. Participants include Jenny Ericsson from Lucille; filmmaker Måns Nyman, a jury member in the music video category at the Manifest Awards; Patrik Frisk from Sundsvall-based Ninetone; and Sundsvall-based filmmaker Alvin Lindblom. Presentation: Servo.music – Åsa Carild

Åsa Carild is a music industry veteran whose career spans rights management and licensing leadership at Polaris, ICE, and STIM. At Servo.music, she brings that experience to a new sync-licensing marketplace that uses AI to match real, rights-cleared music directly with filmmakers, creators, and ad makers. In this session, Åsa will share how Servo.music is rethinking music discovery and licensing to work better for both sides of the deal.

Sync Agent vs Music Supervisor - How to get your music into international film?

Alicia Richards, Music Supervisor Alicia Richards is a music supervisor for film and TV, based in Bilbao, Spain, and originally from the U.S. — with work spanning productions worldwide. She specializes in independent film, helping filmmakers use music to serve their story - from finding the right composer and songs, to shepherding that creative collaboration, to handling the business side of licensing and clearing music. Her credits include The End of Oak Street, Red Sonja, and Club Kid. Jorge Martínez, Sync Agent Currently based in Stockholm, Jorge Martínez has experience in music licensing for film and advertising. His international experience includes projects in Spain, Germany, the Czech Republic and now Sweden. Jorge is a co-founder of the Association of Music Supervisors (ASM), has served as a mentor at Berklee Valencia, and also enjoys sharing his music as a DJ in his spare time. Jorge will share his experiences as a music supervisor and sync agent, working with a variety of music catalogues.

What should you consider if you want to get your music placed in film? What exciting opportunities are out there, and what does the future hold? Will AI become a competitor or a complementary tool? Work in Progress: The Punklings

This is not the first documentary that experienced filmmakers Ellen Fiske and Ellinor Hallin have worked on together. Their previous collaborations include Scheme Birds, Josefin & Florin and Det stora och det lilla. And now they are making a film about Pipeline’s punk school! We can’t wait to get a first glimpse of the footage. Together with producer Ina Holmqvist, they will talk about the project.

Would My Song Work in a Film?

A panel of music supervisors, sync agents, composers and directors will listen to and assess submitted songs played in the cinema. Could these songs work in a film? The songwriters and composers behind all the tracks will be there to answer questions and join the discussion. Expect everything from metal to instrumental music – and plenty of lively discussion! The panel includes Selen Özan, Katharina Nuttall, director Emily Norling and others. Moderator: Mats Hammerman
